LESOTHO ON ECONOMIC RECOVERY – PM

Maseru, April 04 — Lesotho is on the course for economic recovery and this has made the new government to drastically change the way things have been done.

This, the Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane stated in his statement as he reported on the first 100 days of his government.

He indicated that among the greatest strides the government has made, they managed to safe M108 million per year due to the reduction of Cabinet Minister from 37 in the past regime to 14.

He added that they have managed to save some money from government purse, and therefore this has contributed to improving services delivery and infrastructure development and maintenance.

The Prime Minister noted that during the past few months since this new regime in power, they managed to pay M460 million debt to local business people who have suffered over years because of doing business with government as well as those from abroad.

He revealed that the government has also invested immensely on agricultural production as they have bought manure and seedlings abroad saving 50 percent of the money as in the country they spend M28 000 per ton, while now they will be spending M14 000 per ton.

He further stated that the government has established security agencies campaign through which they are curbing crime so as to ensure the safety and protection of every person living in this country.

The Prime Minister pointed out that during those 100 days, he visited Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) members in Mozambique, commending those men in uniform for doing good job to ensure safe and peaceful Africa.

He highlighted that they are determined to ensure that the country completes the Reform Process well so as to bring about the “Lesotho we want”, and also meet the international expectations.

Today, PM will lead the service delivery and accountability dialogue to be held at Manthabiseng Convention Centre with the objective to present government report on service delivery in 100 days.

Meanwhile the 100 days of the new government ended on February 27.
