OMBUDSMAN PRESENTS REPORT ON INSPECTION OF INSTITUTIONS

Maseru, Oct. 24 — The office of the Ombudsman has presented a report following inspections of facilities such as hospitals, correctional services as well as military cells that the office embarked on from February to September.

While presenting the findings of the inspections, the Ombudsman Advocate Tlotliso Polaki said that amongst the facilities that inspections were carried out on, there are a few which caught their attention such as the Mohlomi hospital, Berea Correctional Services, the Maseru Female prison as well as the Juvenile training centre which she said living conditions at such facilities compromises the basic human rights.

She indicated that at the Mohlomi mental hospital, there is great congestion which also poses a health risk as the facility is faced with a challenge of lies infestation which is contagious amongst the patients.
