OPPOSITION PARTIES’ VIEWS ON IEC, STATE COUNCIL CASE

Maseru, July 26 — Following the case filed by five political parties against the State Council and independent Electoral Commission (IEC), some other political parties are of the view that filing a court case is harsh and IEC should be given a chance to do its duties.

The five political parties being Basotho Action Party (BAP), Democratic Congress (DC), All Basotho Convention (ABC), Basotho National Party (BNP) and Popular Front for Democracy (PFD) have filed constitutional case in which they want the constitutional court to compel the Council of State to urgently advise King Letsie III to appoint a tribunal to investigate the IEC Commissioners’ fitness to hold office as per Section 66 (12) of the constitution
