Maseru, July 26 — Deputy Commissioner of Police at the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) Paseka Mokete has filed an application before the High Court seeking that an appeal lodged against a judgment by the Magistrate Court, which is in his favour, be dismissed for want of prosecution.

The prosecution lodged an appeal before the High Court on June 08, 2022 after the applicant (Mokete) was discharged from criminal charges against him by the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on May 12, 2022. He was charged with physical assault in contravention of Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010 and sexual assault in contravention of Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2003. He was acquitted after he applied for his discharge upon completion of the prosecution’s case.
