Maseru, April 23 — Maseru District Hospital is expected to perform well because as it is a new hospital with new equipment, that should be used to its optimum.
This was said by the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Social Cluster, Mr. Mokhothu Makhalanyane during inspection at the hospital today wards, food and waste management storage was scrutinised.
Mr. Makhalanyane said some departments are performing well while others are not, adding those lacking behind include cleanliness.
He highlighted that the water tank needs to be cleaned frequently to avoid the rust and mold build up, explaining that waste management storage is not well managed as well.
He said the waste was last emptied in 2024, emptying the recent and leaving old waste causing a bad smell, adding that the fear now is that the place is going to harbor insects, rats even polluting the environment.
He pleaded with workers to do medical examinations due to the cold working places before carrying out their duties for them to know their health status and management to ensure that workers do their duties.
Maseru District Hospital Health Inspector, Mrs. Charmaine Nkhereanye said they do not have a special truck for transporting waste to Mafeteng or Mohale’s Hoek to be disposed safely.
She explained it needs a special transport to avoid contamination of the environment .
