Maseru, Oct.09 — Ahead of the upcoming Global Handwashing Day on October 15, District Health Inspector under District Health Management Team (DHMT) said they will host a special awareness and hygiene campaign with pupils and staff at Sekete Primary School on Thursday next week.
In an interview with the Agency, Mrs. ‘Maleloko Ncheche stated that the event aims to instil lifelong hygiene habits early, showing young learners that a simple 20-second scrub with soap and clean water is one of the most powerful ways to stop the spread of preventable illnesses like diarrhoea and respiratory infections.

She said the program at Sekete Primary School will feature interactive hand washing demonstrations, educational talks on the critical times to wash hands such as before eating and after using the toilet and activities designed to turn children into hygiene champions within their own homes and neighbourhoods.
She indicated that the efforts align with broader public health initiatives across Lesotho, where government and development partners continue to push for improved water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure and education in local schools.
Meanwhile the day will be marked under the theme: “Be a Handwashing Hero”. It is annually observed with the purpose of raising awareness and promoting handwashing with soap and water as a simple, affordable way to prevent diseases, stop germ spread and save lives.
