WVL INTERACTS WITH STAKEHOLDERS ON TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS ISSUES

Mohale’s Hoek, April 18 — District Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Multi-Sectoral Committee in partnership with World Vision Lesotho has on Thursday held a meeting with relevant stakeholders, with an objective of discussing progress on Action Plans that were developed in the district symposium in November, 2023.

In an interview with the Agency, World Vision Lesotho Cluster Manager Ms. Pulane Mokhethi stated that the objective of the Committee is to strengthen social protection systems in monitoring, preventing and responding to human trafficking and violations of rights of persons with disabilities.

Ms. Mokhethi further indicated that WVL is implementing this three year European Union  funded project called Empowerment of Civil Society Organizations in Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, (PPHR), with an anticipation that once it faces out, relevant stakeholders would be able to carry it through.

She concluded by articulating that WVL is still considering coming up income generating activities to help communities as most cases of human trafficking are due to the high rate of unemployment.

Developed Action Plans included sensitizing communities on issues of human trafficking in a form of public gatherings, capacitating community counsellors and striving for the development of procedure when addressing a TIP victim in a health facility setting.
