ASSAULT CASE WITHDRAWN

QACHA’S NEK — The case against 28 year-old Paballo Mohapi from Qabane has been withdrawn following an out of court settlement between him and the complainant, Relebohile Chechane (40).

Mohapi was charged under Section 31 (1) and (2) (b) of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010 for allegedly assaulting Chechane with a stick on the head and body on November 2, 2024 near Thifa, with the intent to cause serious injuries.

Appearing in court on November 15, 2024 Mohapi applied for bail, and Crown Counsel ’Mants’ebo Mofoka facilitated a Restorative Justice agreement.

As part of the resolution, Mohapi was to compensate the victim with M3,500 by December 20, 2024. However, he failed to appear in court on the set date and subsequent remands, leading Senior Crown Counsel Tsotang Maile to successfully apply for a warrant of arrest.
