Botha-Bothe August 14 — A 25-year-old ‘Malefa Lemena has been charged for negligently abandoning her 10 year-old child with disability.
According to the court papers, the accused took her child on July 31, 2023 near Linakeng, Ha Mothunts’ane where she left the child without agreeing with the owner of the home and went to stay with a boyfriend. The accused shows that she did that because the father of the child could not take or support them with anything and therefore they are starving.
She has been charged for contravening the provisions of Section 44(1) of the Child Protection and Welfare Act (Child Negligence). The accused is serving two months’ imprisonment as she failed to pay a M2000 fine for sentencing.
