Qacha’sNek, Aug.14 — Villagers in Ha Mphahama cry foul over non-fulfilment of compensation by a Chinese construction company, Qingjian Group (CNQC), delivering the M1.3 billion (US$84.5 million) Mpiti to Sehlabathebe road project.
In an interview with the Agency, Ha-Mphahama Chief, Chief Mpiti Mathealira said CNQC asked to take concrete around their area and they in return asked for two roads penetrating to Ha Mphahama and Ha Tlali villages.
“They promised to construct those roads until recently when they told us that their machines were busy and they have ran out of time therefore they will not be able to fulfil their promise hence they requested to compensate us with M20 000,” he said.
Upon the change of plan, he said through a public gathering, the community was informed and there were two side – others agreed while others did not.
He said it was then that they established a committee to deal directly with the matter and “the committee agreed to money to avoid more stress considering that CNQC was already playing hide and seek with us,” said Chief Mathealira revealing that their account number was requested the same day. . .
