POLICE DEMANDED MORE MONEY- ACCUSED

Maseru, Oct.29 — The High Court has on Wednesday in a case in which four men are  charged with the murder of Ralikonelo Joki, popularly known as ‘Leqhashasha’ as well as that of Mothibe Mothibe and Thomello Ntsane, heard that the police demanded more money from one of the accused during investigations.

This was revealed by Sesioana Moabi, one of the accused in his evidence as the fourth defence witness.

He testified that following his arrest by the Pitso Ground Police in connection with the murders of Joki and Mothibe, the police took his properties including two cell phones and M28,000.00 which they did not return when they released him, to date.

The accused indicated that upon his release after interrogations, the police told him to come back the following day to get his properties as they were busy with other suspects.

He added that when he came back to the police station the following day, the police once again told him that they were busy with other suspects taking them somewhere.

He said they told him to leave contacts of his next of kin so they could contact them and he gave them his mother’s phone numbers.

He informed the court that he was taken by surprise when the police arrived at his home in Mokema the next day saying they were there to get him. He stated that along the way, one of the police officers told him that the money he gave them was not enough. He indicated that when he asked what money, the police officer said the money he left at the police station was no longer his but belonged to the police. . .
