Quthing, Sept. 15 — The District Librarian Mr. Bonang Thakanyane has urged the Quthing community (Liphakoe) to take advantage of their public library located at Upper Moyeni for boosting learning and cognitive function.
In an interview with the Agency, Mr. Thakanyane said the appeal arises from the evident underutilization of the community library, since becoming fully operational in early July as the facility has seen minimal engagement, with only one individual spending a few hours reading over a three-week period.
He said this low level of usage highlights that the library is not being effectively utilized by the community, despite its potential to serve as a vital resource for education, literacy, and social connection.

He indicated that public library is far more than a building filled with books, but is a safe and quiet free resource to be used by public of different age groups for study, provide access to variety of books with reliable information for researchers, join reading clubs, get help with free textbooks, or simply enjoy a quiet space to think.
He said that reading books in public library is important, because it offers equitable access to information, improve literacy and intellectual growth for all community members.
“Access to information amongst other expands knowledge, improves vocabulary, and stimulates mental function, while also reducing stress and promote mental well-being,” he added . . . .
