Maseru, Feb. 02 — The National University of Lesotho (NUL) has selected five standout business ideas for the Spelling A Business Africa (SABA) challenge.
NUL says it has officially taken its first major step in the SABA Challenge and the Faculty of Social Sciences hosted a rigorous selection process to identify the brightest entrepreneurial minds on campus, during a high stakes pitching session.
The SABA Challenge which is a collaborative effort between SABA and the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), aims to bridge the gap between traditional academic theory and the practical demands of the modern economy.
The NUL Innovation Hub indicates that the challenge is focusing on corporate language and business literacy, and the competition prepares students to navigate the professional world with confidence and precision.
Furthermore, it states that recognising that great ideas require diverse perspectives, the pitching session was presided over by a multi-disciplinary panel of experts with the judges bringing a wealth of knowledge from various corners of the university, that include the Faculties of Humanities and Education and the Innovation Hub.
The diverse panel was to ensure that the selected ideas were not only economically viable but also communicatively sound and socially impactful.
After a day of intense presentations and critical feedback, five standout business ideas were selected to represent NUL.
The finalists will move forward to compete against other institutions of higher learning across the country.
These students embody the core mission of the SABA initiative: proving that academic knowledge alone is no longer enough. Therefore, refining their business vocabulary and pitching strategies, these representatives are setting a new standard for student-led innovation in Lesotho.
