THABA TSEKA EXCEEDS TARGET

Thaba Tseka, July 24 — Four days after the district local farmers started selling their produce to the government, an announcement was made that the government had reached the target of what they need to purchase in the district.

This was confirmed by the District Disaster Manager Ms. Nthomeng Matete on Monday.

She said based on the numbers they have been expected to purchase they have already surpassed the target and therefore are supposed to stop.

She stated that the district was expected to purchase 15000kg of beans and 75000kg of maize.

To date, she said they have not purchased even a single kilogram of maize and therefore they are still awaiting for farmers to sell maize to the government.

Currently, Thaba Tseka is the third district to announce that they have reached the target of beans expected to be purchased by the government.

Thaba Tseka is the biggest producer of beans especially in villages around the Senqu River Valley.

It is reported that most of the beans that have been purchased are pinto beans which cost M1200.00 per 50kg while sugar beans are rare.
