Mohale’s Hoek, July.29 – The Coordinator of Trafficking In Persons (TIP) Efforts in Lesotho withing the Lesotho Mounted Police (LMPS) Senior Inspector Beleme Moerane, says human traffickers know how to lure victims using various techniques like recruiting agencies especially now that there is high rate of unemployment
Senior Inspector (Snr. Insp.) Moerane stated this during the 3 days Training of Trainers For Victims Of Trafficking in Persons Protection Actors in Lesotho, courtesy of International Organization for Migration, (IOM), by indicating that TIP has elements which include among others, acts or activity, means to have control over a person as a well a purpose, noting as much as various control tactics are not always physical, violent, but they can have a lasting psychological and emotional impact on the victim of trafficking, (VOT).
Snr. Insp. added that traffickers seize victims identification to restrict them from seeking help especially in foreign countries, while introducing them to drugs then threaten to harm victim’s families, compelling victims to comply.
He concluded by stating that Lesotho has been seen is a source of transit and destination country for women and children subjected to force labour and sex trafficking, and for men subjected to false labour. . .
