Maseru, July.29 — Following news making rounds on social media earlier today that Botho University students embarked on strike and set alight the field nearby, Students Representative Council (SRC)has refuted the allegations.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency, SRC Minister of Special Needs Litlhare Motlomelo said it is not true that there was a strike saying students just went by the university gate where they sang without causing any damage to property.
She said their demonstration was triggered by delay in getting their lump sum money for this semester. She emphasized that they contained this as they were only singing.
She explained that though police were there, the students dispersed after getting bank notifications.
She added that they are sponsored by the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) but lump sum money unlike other allowances, it is paid to the university which thereafter transfers to students’ accounts. . . .
