Mohale’s Hoek, 06 —11 Area Chief of Ha Sekoati, ‘Masekoati Posholi and Ha Makhabane Councillor ‘Matumelo Makoetlane, have on Wednesday confirmed they have been scammed M3000.00 and M1000.00 respectively, by an individual identifying himself as Molapo from TEBA in Maseru.
In an interview with the Agency, Chief ‘Masekoati Posholi stated that Community Council Secretaries informed them about a man reported to have been at the District Administrator’s office, trying to find former mine workers who still have some money they left behind.
Chief Posholi articulated that they registered their names and later got a call from the aforementioned man demanding M5000.00 to help the latter skip a queue of those who are already in the system, however the amount was lowered to M3000.00 after negotiations.
She indicated that after depositing the money through mobile money transfer, Molapo went from not picking up calls to switching off his mobile phone and that was when she became suspicious, noting the latter informed her she will get M108,000.00 from the mine.
