Maseru, July 31 — The Officer Commanding Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) was on Wednesday cross examined by Officers whom he identified on the footage, assaulting inmates.
Assistant Commissioner (AS) Tsoto Manaka was cross examined before the Commission Of Inquiry on the escape of inmates, while the footage, which featured some of Lesotho Correctional Service Officers assaulting some of the inmates who escaped from MCCI after being re-captured, was replayed.
Of the Officers who cross examined AS Manaka was MCCI second in charge, Senior Superintendent Mahlelebe who asked him how the situation becomes at correctional institutions across the country when inmates escaped and if he agrees with him that in such confusion, a person could act in an unpleasant manner . . .
