NATIONAL ASSEMBLY RESOLVES TO ESTABLISH GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE

Maseru, Aug. 15 — The National Assembly has resolved to establish a Committee on Government Assurances to scrutinize the assurances, promises and matters given by Ministries from time to time on the floor of the House.

This, after the continuation of debates on the above mentioned motion which was moved on May 02, 2023 and the Committee shall be established under Standing Order Number 97.

The Committee is also intended to report on the extent to which such assurances, promises and undertakings have been implemented and exercise such other functions that may be assigned by the House to the Committee from time to time.

Supporting the motion, the Minister of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo clarified that the committee aims to play an oversight role and strengthen a culture of accountability in the National Assembly not to halt the operations of the executive committee.
