Washington — Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for stronger friendship, cooperation and communication between China and the United States to build stable and constructive relations.
Mr Xi was speaking at a state dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump in Washington following talks between the two leaders.
He described the discussions as sincere and in-depth, saying the two sides had reached a common understanding on several issues, providing new strategic guidance for relations between the two countries.
Mr Xi highlighted the long history of people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States, including cooperation during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the Ping-Pong diplomacy.
He said such exchanges had improved mutual understanding and strengthened public support for cooperation between the two countries.
The Chinese President said the two major countries should meet the expectations of their peoples and explore ways to coexist and cooperate.
“Let us join hands and move forward side by side. Together let us nurture the beautiful flowers of Sino-US friendship,” he said, calling for continued efforts to strengthen relations and open a new chapter in China-US friendship.
