Maseru, Aug. 10 — Few street vendors operating along Kingsway were seen doing their daily business in-spite of cold weather, that has seen different parts of the city experiencing heavy rains and winds.
During observation since morning, the Agency established that those who reported to work are men as opposed to their female counterparts.
Additionally, in some places, including next to Central Charge Office police station, it was not business as usual as none of the vendors had shown up to work.
Speaking with the Agency, Mr. Motlatsi Masenkane of Qoaling, Matsóareng based next to Makoanyane Square said he is the bread winner taking care of her late sister’s children.
He said although being a bread winner, one would expect that he is a married man.
“I am not married and one would expect that I will be indoor but the truth is circumstances have forced me to become a father and off course bread winner hence I arrived here as early as 06:00am today,” he said.
Since morning, he said only three customers have shown up to his business where he sells snacks including airtime amongst others.
Also speaking, Mr. Abia Lefatle operating next to the Post Office stated that if he was not the head of the family, with many depending on him to have access to food, clothing but above all shelter.
He said he arrived at around 10:00am only to realise that things are getting worse as it keeps on raining.
Meanwhile, Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS) and those of Disaster Management Authority (DMA) reports coming from different parts of the districts have shown that roads are blocked in Semonkong and other rural parts of the districts as result of snow, advising people to take precaution to avoid being trapped by snow.
Today, LMS further says Maseru will experience cool weather, with temperatures ranging between 4 degree celsius and 9 degree celsius winds are anticipated in Maseru, nearing 40 km/h. Heavy showers are forecasted, reaching up to 13.36 millilitre.
