YOUTH GET GUIDANCE ON CAREERS IN TEYATEYANENG

Berea, Feb. 11 — Students from various high schools, including those who completed their studies the previous year, gathered in Teyateyaneng on Wednesday for a career expo aimed at helping them make informed decisions about their education and future.

Keynote speaker, Mr. Lehlomela Mokhati, Chief Financial Officer at Metropolitan Lesotho, encouraged students to take career planning seriously and begin preparing early for their future.

He advised learners to assess their strengths and interests, research career opportunities, participate in practical experiences and remain flexible as career paths can change over time.

Mr. Mokhati further urged students to seek mentorship from professionals working in fields they admire and to challenge themselves to grow.

“The most important things to avoid are simply going with the flow, taking shortcuts, drugs, and social media conflicts,” he said.

One of the recent school leavers, Thapelo Maja, said the expo was especially beneficial because it gave young people the chance to explore different career paths and understand what is required to succeed.

“This expo helps us meet professionals, learn about opportunities, and see what careers fit our interests and strengths. It gives guidance on the steps we need to take, from education to practical experience, so we can make informed choices about our future,”  Maja said.

The event also brought together different institutions, colleges and universities that provided career guidance, shared information about study opportunities and distributed application forms to qualifying students, helping both learners and recent school leavers to make informed education and career choices.
