Maseru, Jan. 16 — With a number of schools resuming after the Christmas holidays, adapting to changes for pupils is reported to be one of the challenges that are expected to be encountered in schools.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency, the Public Relations Officer of ‘Mokhosi oa ‘Mangoana’ (MOM), Ms. Pots’o Tumisi said that this is a critical time where some students experience bullying at school and some fail to adapt due to change of environment and are usually exposed to the usage of drugs.
She said that peer pressure and the willingness to fit in are some of the issues that push pupils into using drugs.
Ms. Tumisi however pleaded with parents to ensure that they are available for the children and are willing to listen to them as such will allow them to notice even the slightest change in the behavior of their children.
Meanwhile, Ms. Tumisi also advised parents to ensure that they check on a regular basis the contents of their children’s schools bags as well as regular inspection of their bedrooms for safety purposes as some children hide drugs in such places.
Lesotho is faced with a vast challenge of youth indulging in drugs and mostly are reported to be coming from high schools.
