COUNCILLOR CALLS FOR NEW WOOLSHED AS TSOELIKE, MELIKANE DISPUTE DEEPENS

Qacha’s Nek, Sept. 03 — Melikane councillor Mr. Lehlohonolo Mahase has called for the urgent construction of a woolshed in his electoral division to end recurring fights between farmers over the use of the Tsoelike woolshed.

The councillor’s plea follows a tense standoff last week, when Tsoelike’s wool and mohair committee refused to hand over keys to the facility, insisting they should shear first while ’Melikane farmers wanted to begin on August 25.

In an interview with the Agency, Mr. Mahase said the shared facility has become a flashpoint for conflict, with Tsoelike and Melikane farmers clashing over access and shearing schedules.

“We need a woolshed in Melikane. Apart from the fights, the current woolshed is not safe and Tsoelike is far from our farmers. A site was already earmarked years ago, but no woolshed was built. This cannot continue,” he said.
