AU COUNCIL APPLAUDED

Maseru, Feb. 19 — On the margins of the African Union Summit in the Capital Addis Ababa, Member States engaged with the Leadership of the Government of Lesotho as well as Mr. Joshua Setipa who is Lesotho’s candidate for the position of Secretary General of The Commonwealth.

At this event, the Executive Council of the African Union revealed that Lesotho’s candidature runs along with two other Member States in West Africa.  

In her statement, the Permanent Representative of Lesotho at the African Union Commission, Ms. Ntsiuoa Sekete commended African Union Member States for the high quality and calibre of candidates that have been presented for various positions within the international system. 

She congratulated all the candidates who have been successful following consensus, united front and unanimous vote in their favour.

Ambassador Sekete commended African Union Member States, for solidarity and most importantly, for upholding the principle of rotation, without compromising quality. 

The last African to hold the Secretary General position at Commonwealth was Chief Emeka Anyaoku of Nigeria, representing the West Africa Region.
