Berea, March,31 – As Easter approaches, police in Berea are intensifying patrols and reinforcing safety measures across the district, urging the public to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety during the holiday period.
In an interview, District Police Commander, Senior Superintendent Kabelo Halahala, said the police are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful Easter.
“Easter is different from Christmas as many people attend church services, which requires us to also focus on the safety of congregants,” he said.
Senior Superintendent Halahala noted that police have already received requests from various churches seeking security presence, an indication that some members of the public have safety concerns even in places of worship.
He advised the public to take precautionary measures, including avoiding drinking and driving, refraining from using unsafe transport such as unregistered private vehicles commonly known as “catch a ride,” and ensuring their homes are secured at all times.
He further warned against criminal activities, including stock theft and illegal slaughtering of animals, stressing that such acts are punishable by law and threaten community safety.
“The police are committed to ensuring a safe Easter for everyone, but the public must also take responsibility for their own safety,” he said.
The appeal comes amid concerns over an increase in road accidents, theft, and other crimes that are often reported during holiday periods in the Berea district.
