Botha-Bothe, Aug 13 — Executive Company, led by Mr Lebona Lephema, has on Thursday donated food packages and blankets to families of the victims and survivors of the truck accident that occurred at Mahlasela last month.
The donation was handed over at the Botha-Bothe Urban Council grounds, where Mr Lephema met with families who lost their loved ones in the accident as well as one of the survivors.
He said the gesture was made out of compassion, noting that the healing journey for the affected families would be long and that they needed all the support they could get during this difficult time.
“I am doing this today from the bottom of my heart, not from a place of politics. Something like this needs us as the business community to show compassion. As Christians, we need to understand that everything happens for a reason, just like this accident.
“I was told that these men were going to assist in preparing for His Majesty’s birthday when the accident happened. I therefore pass my condolences to the families of the bereaved and wish healing to those who are recovering,” he said.
District Administrator Mr. Ts’epa Chaba thanked Executive Company for supporting the affected families, saying the gesture demonstrated leadership and showed that it was not only the relevant Ministry’s responsibility to support and console the families.
“For a big business like this one to show up during this time is a great pleasure for us, and we therefore call upon all businesses to support these families while they heal from their loss,” he said.
Executive Company’s Lipholo Lenonyane said the gesture was intended to contribute to the healing process of the families and survivors.
He said if it were not for God’s plan and will, the company would not have been in a position to assist, adding that its intervention demonstrated that God was with the affected families.
He said Executive Company understood its role of giving back to the communities that supported its business and would continue to contribute to the community.
Councillor for Pholo-Namane, Mr Jone Dlamini, also expressed his appreciation to the company for becoming part of the families’ healing journey.
He said the council had lost one of its members in the accident, while another victim was discharged from hospital today.
Chairperson of the Botha-Bothe Urban Council, Mr. Peete Molapo, thanked Executive Company for responding when the council requested assistance.
He said the accident had not only affected the families but the council as well, adding that they wanted the families to understand that they were not alone in dealing with the tragedy.
He said only one person remained in hospital, while the others had already been discharged.
One of the bereaved family members, Mr. Mohau Ramasimong, thanked Executive Company for the support, saying they felt consoled when people came forward to help them cope with the loss of their loved ones.
He wished the company continued success so that it could help more people in the future.
All eight men who died in the Mahlasela accident have since been laid to rest.
