BUDGET REFLECTS MUKWASHI’S VALUES

Maseru, Feb. 18 — The 2026/27 Financial Year Budget seems to reflect and touch base on opinions reflected by former United Nations (UN) Amanda Khozi Mukwashi Resident Coordinator prior departure over the weekend.

Themed Accelerating  Economic Transformation, building Resilience,’ the budget seeks to amongst others stop hesitations, build resilience to unlock growth for every Mosotho.

The budget further looks into capitalising  on using the already available resources in the country, inclusive of water  in an attempt to ensure that the country becomes a safe place for all , where jobs can be created exploring human capital locally as well as by ensuring that all Basotho benefit.

Prior her leaving, Khozi Mukwashi indicated that it is not true that Lesotho has no resources but rather implementation was a major factor lacking.

She stipulated that the already available natural resources in the country ought to be utilised effectively for all Basotho to get the benefits and services.

Meanwhile, a Member of Parliament, Mr. Sello Hakane also shared his sentiments about the budget. He highlighted that the projections appear to be good, good enough to change the current scenario.

For instance, he said the fact that the Minister of Finance in this budget alluded that Basotho will be allowed to work and rehabilate roads in their different villages (fato-fato), so that they in return get payment will also assist people in terms of fending for their families so as to tackle hunger.

The budget has recorded M1.8 billion  for job creation, this with the aim not only to expand job creation but to empower Basotho in their different communities, as well as to build resilient infrastructure.
