Maseru, Jan. 28 — Council On Higher Education (CHE) reached the decision to issue certificates digitally upon successful verification of qualifications or evaluation to promote accessibility, especially for applicants who might find it difficult to get them at the Head Office.
This was said by CHE Chief Executive Officer Dr. Moeketsi Letele in an interview with the Agency, following concerns that were raised by some applicants that they have to print the certificates elsewhere after issuance, yet they had paid for the verification process.
Dr. Letele said the institution previously printed the certificates but transitioned to digital verification and certificate issuance through the Lesotho Qualification Management Information System to enhance efficiency and combat document forgery, saying certificates have security features.
“CHE had to transition to digital transformation and promote a green economy like other countries” he said.
In another issue, Dr. Letele revealed that CHE is in the process of implementing compulsory evaluation to verify qualifications of Basotho who studied abroad to ensure they meet standards as per the country’s framework.
The Council on Higher Education verifies local and foreign qualifications to establish their authenticity, accreditation and equivalence to the Lesotho Qualifications Framework.
The Objective is to promote quality assurance, fight fraudulent credentials, enhance learner mobility, and ensure qualifications meet local or international standards for employment and education.
