Maseru, Jan.28—As part of efforts to strengthening partnership to Lesotho, World Food Programme (WFP) Representative and Country Director to the Mountain Kingdom, Ms. Anna Mukiibi – Bunnya on Wednesday presented her letters to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane.
It is during this presentation that on behalf of the government, Minister Mpotjoane reaffirmed the government’s deep appreciation for the longstanding partnership with WFP, guided by the Second-Generation Country Strategic Plan aligned with Lesotho’s National Strategic Development Plan II and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 17 (Partnerships).
He reiterated the government’s full commitment to supporting WFP’s mandate and strengthening collaboration in building resilient food systems, protecting vulnerable populations and advancing sustainable development for all Basotho.
Meanwhile WFP has had impactful interventions including school feeding programmes, emergency assistance, nutrition initiatives and climate-resilient support for vulnerable communities. WFP also continues to play a critical role in addressing food insecurity and malnutrition in Lesotho.
