BEREA– Princess ‘Maseeiso Mohato Seeiso has called for communities to work together to support early childhood development, saying children need collective care to realise their full potential.
The Princess made the remarks during a charity event held at St. Cecelia Orphanage in Berea, where members of Rotary International District 9320 donated blankets and clothes under the “Keep a Child Warm” project.
The donation was made by the Rotary Club of ‘Mantsopa, Rotary Club of Qiloane, Rotary Club of Centre of Accounting Studies and Rotary Club of Rosebank in Johannesburg.
Princess ‘Maseeiso said the initiative demonstrates that love, compassion and brotherhood remain important values in society.
She urged Basotho to embrace these values in raising children, saying they are essential for building a better future for the country.
Speaking at the event, Youth Chairperson of Rotary International District 9370, Mr Makhetha Motsoari, said the organisation has previously visited St. Cecelia Orphanage, where it donated trees.
He said the latest donation was made after members recognised the severe winter conditions affecting many vulnerable children in Lesotho.
Receiving the donation, the founder of St. Cecelia Orphanage, Father Austus Pule Mahlaku, thanked the Rotary clubs for their continued support.
He, however, appealed for assistance with agricultural inputs to enable the orphanage to produce its own food and reduce dependence on external support.
During the visit, Princess ‘Maseeiso also spent time interacting with the children through team-building activities and skills development games.
