Berea, June 21 — When electrification of rural areas is believed to be a cornerstone for economic development, access to electricity remains a crucial challenge in some parts of Berea district, particularly for the Tsoili-tsoili community in Thuathe constituency.
According to Tsoili-tsoili Electoral Division (ED) Community Councillor, Mr. Bothata Khemi, six villages with a population estimated to be over 800 people under his ED do not have access to electricity, despite being surrounded by places which are already connected to electric power.
Mr. Khemi said electricity is an important role of changing the quality of life, but they find themselves marginalized in terms of accessing a dignified lifestyle whereas they are found at the lowlands, adding that to charge their phones they walk long distances to places like Ha-Motolo, Ha-Makube and Maqhaka. . .
