Maseru, June 09 — In a world where many young girls are battling low self-esteem, peer pressure, unrealistic beauty standards, and the growing influence of social media, HIV/AIDS Activist and Menstrual Health and Hygiene Advocate Miss. Tsépang Maboee is calling on parents to invest in something that could change their daughters’ lives forever.
Tsépang says she was inspired to establish a Girls Empowerment Masterclass after recognizing the urgent need for safe spaces where girls can freely learn, grow, and discover their true value.
“Many girls are growing up questioning their worth, comparing themselves to others, and struggling to navigate the challenges that come with adolescence,” she said. “I wanted to create a space where they can learn to appreciate who they are, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to succeed in life.”
The masterclass focuses on helping girls understand their identity, strengths, values, emotions, and self-worth. Participants will also learn about healthy boundaries, communication skills, goal setting, positive self-talk, and future planning.
Tsépang believes that adolescence is one of the most critical stages in a child’s life, as it is during this period that young people begin to form beliefs about themselves and the future they envision. Without positive guidance, she says, many girls can easily fall victim to negative influences that affect their confidence, education, and life choices.
She stressed that parents play a vital role in ensuring their daughters receive opportunities that strengthen not only their academic abilities but also their emotional wellbeing and self-belief.
“Every parent wants their daughter to succeed, but success begins with a girl believing that she is capable, valuable, and deserving of opportunities,” Tsépang said.
Through interactive activities, discussions, and reflection exercises, the programme aims to help girls embrace their uniqueness and develop the courage to speak up, make healthy decisions, and pursue their dreams with confidence.
Tsépang hopes the initiative will produce a generation of confident young leaders who will positively influence their families, schools, and communities.
She says the masterclass is not intended to be a once-off event but the beginning of a larger movement, with plans to host it annually and expand it into a broader mentorship and empowerment programme.
According to Tsépang, empowering girls today is an investment in the future of the nation.
“When we invest in the confidence and wellbeing of our girls, we invest in stronger families, stronger communities, and a brighter future for Lesotho,” she said.
She expressed hope that every girl who attends the masterclass will leave with one powerful message: that she is worthy, capable, and strong enough to shape her own future.
As concerns continue to grow over the social and emotional challenges facing young people, initiatives such as these are increasingly being viewed as essential tools for raising resilient, confident, and purpose-driven girls who are ready to contribute meaningfully to society.
