INMATES NOT ALLOWED TO DISPENSE MEDICATION – SEKAUTI

Maseru, July 22 — No inmate is allowed to dispense medication to other inmates at Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) unless such inmate had undergone training in pharmaceuticals prior to imprisonment.

These was said by Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS ) Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) – Health Service, Mr. Phoka Sekauti when testifying before the Commission of Inquiry on the escape of inmates, after it was disclosed earlier by some inmates that an inmate by the name of Moeketsi Mothepu who assists at the health facility had always provided right medication for inmates and the latter appreciates that.

Mr. Sekauti said that is not allowed but inmates always have their own tricks and do things in a way they would not be allowed to happen.

“No inmate is supposed to access medication from our pharmacy and hand it over to other inmates,” he stressed.
