KAO SHEEP THEFT SUSPECT FACES NINE CHARGES, INCLUDING ATTEMPTED MURDER 

Botha-Bothe, Dec. 18 — Lekhotla Lehlohonolo (31) of Ha Shishila, Kao has been remanded in custody while awaiting trial after allegedly assisting two men from Berea to steal sheep in his village. The accused is facing nine charges, including five counts of attempted murder.

The court heard that Lehlohonolo allegedly facilitated the theft after being given two stolen donkeys as payment. Initially, three suspects were involved in the crime; one died during the incident, while another sustained injuries  and remains hospitalised.

Lehlohonolo is charged with contravening Section 13(2)(b) of the Stock Theft Act as amended in 2006, read with Section 13(3)(a) of the Stock Theft Act as amended in 2003. It is alleged that on December 9, 2025, he used a firearm to steal 27 sheep — comprising 11 ewes, three rams  — belonging to Moshoeshoe Sakoane.

On the second count, the accused is charged with malicious damage to property, in contravention of Section 72 read with Section 109 of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010, after allegedly shooting and killing a dog belonging to Likabo Maluke at Khohlonoea Kh’enene, Maboku in Leribe on the same date…
