Botha-Bothe, Mar. 16 — Five shop stewards have been sentenced by the Botha-Bothe Magistrate’s Court to pay a fine of M15,000 each or serve five years in prison for theft of goods from Kobeli shop in the district.
The convicted individuals are Retsibile Mokhants’i (32) of Mokhotlong Ntlholohetsane, Thabang Motjofi (33) of Makopo, Reabetsoe Phomole (23) of Makopo, Busiziwe Mabaleha (29) of Levi’s Nek and Nts’eliseng Secemeceme (30) of Ha Selomo.
Among the five convicts, two who are Busiziwe Mabaleha and Retsibile Mokhants’i managed to pay the fine and will therefore not serve prison sentences.
The accused were charged with contravening Section 57(1)(2)(a), read with Section 109 of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010 (Theft), after they allegedly stole various items from the shop between July 2025 and January 2026.
The stolen items reportedly include one green suit and several pairs of shoes, 41 Toughees, 27 Nike, 12 Jonathan D, seven Bronx, one Mazarate, 51 Grasshoppers, four Superga, seven Jordan, three formal shoes, 41 Puma, nine Jeep, one CAT, eight Adidas, 12 Eleven Rief boots and 23 Love Rose formal shoes.
The total value of the stolen property is estimated at M204,900.00 and belongs to Ms Matsibiso Tuke.
The five accused had earlier been granted bail of M2,000 each which they paid.
