LET NO PARENT’S DIFFERENCES AFFECT CHILDREN– MRS. THOOTHE

Maseru, Apr. 08 — With the ongoing Online Registration for external classe’s learners with Examination Council of Lesotho (ECOL), many are struggling to register due to not having Identification Document (ID) number found in Birth Certificate.

In an interview with Mrs. Mampiti Thoothe, the Principal at Qoaling LEC High School noted that out of 140 learners who are about to sit for final examination in Qoaling, about 27 have not yet registered because of not having ID numbers, and failure to have them will result in them not sitting for their final examinations.

She noted with concern reasons raised by learners that result in them not having ID numbers, change of names that is caused by numerous factors, divorce, re-marriage of parents, typo error during birth certificate application, to mention but a few.

Mrs. Thoothe indicated that it is sad that children have to bear the consequences of separated parents, saying hurdles faced by children of separated parents when it comes to obtaining identification documentation and navigating name changes in the midst of divorce proceedings is difficult.
