MASERU – A man accused of housebreaking and motor vehicle theft, Neo Marunya, appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where evidence surrounding his arrest was presented.
Testifying before Magistrate Motlatsi Kolisang, Detective Police Constable Lebesa, appearing as Prosecution Witness Four (PW4), told the court that he was the investigating officer in the matter and part of the team that arrested the accused on December 20, 2022.
He said during the course of investigations, he collected several documents relevant to the case, including vehicle registration certificates.
D/P/C Lebesa further informed the court that investigations at the accused’s residence revealed that his wife was employed in town, prompting police to approach her for assistance in locating him.
He told the court that upon arrival at the residence, the accused allegedly escaped through a back window. Police then forced entry into the house, which had been barricaded from the inside using a wardrobe.
The court also heard that after briefly leaving the premises, police officers later returned and found the accused attempting to flee by jumping over a wall. Officers pursued and successfully apprehended him.
