Maseru, Sept. 20 — Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) Superiors, who were implicated by several witnesses regarding cries of inmates when they were being assaulted during the search, have begun to testify.
They include MCCI Commander Assistant Commissioner Manaka, his second in charge Senior Superintendent Mahlelebe and Correctional Staff Training School (CSTS) Commander Assistant Commissioner Nthako.
Asst. Commissioner Nthako, who testified first before the Commission of Inquiry on the escape of inmates said he did not see nor heard inmates crying when he passed by block C to the punishment cells.
He said he was invited by Asst. Commissioner Manaka went with him to the maximum block to see where the inmates had escaped, saying they entered the centre and went into block C.
