MOSALEMANE FARMERS FORESEE POVERTY

Berea, April 16 — Despite the late rains, some of Sebetia farmers in Mosalemane  constituency said they are likely to suffer extreme poverty as a result of crops failure caused by recent drought.

Mr. Sello Mabopo told LENA on Monday that although their crops were quite promising and full of life after summer, they were hopeful of getting a good harvest, but along the way they experienced drought affecting their growth causing crops failure.

Mr. Mabopo said the worst part is that most of the maize crops were caught by drought at the crucial stage of tasseling and for them to bear maize crop was very difficult and they are likely to face poverty.

He stressed that crop production is their major source of livelihoods as their children are hit hard by unemployment and they are wondering how they are going to survive, therefore they are likely to become more vulnerable to poverty and hunger.
