Maseru, April 27 — The National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media suggesting that it has changed its scholarship payment terms.
The claims alleged that NMDS would now only cover tuition fees for certain students while providing monthly allowances to another group.
Speaking in an interview, NMDS Public Relations Officer Ms Nteboheleng Mosehle refuted the claims, stating that the system remains unchanged. She said the secretariat continues to manage and award scholarships based on established selection criteria.
Ms Mosehle indicated that in the current financial year, the institution is undergoing reforms, including the implementation of a system in which NMDS will take full responsibility for administering scholarships and determining eligibility for loan bursaries.
She explained that in previous years, universities were responsible for submitting lists of students to be sponsored. However, this is set to change, as the secretariat will now take over the selection process and determine eligibility based on students’ aggregate performance and academic merit.
