Maseru,Feb. 25 — The Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) held a graduation ceremony for its 4th cohort which was awarded certificates in the level of Diploma in Advanced Sports Management in Maseru.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LNOC, Mr. Morake Raleaka said that this cohort underwent a 9 months course which he said he believes will help in improving the standard of sports within the country.
He mentioned that with this opportunity, the graduates will be able to apply for international jobs in countries such as Europe as the certificate is internationally recognized.
Mr. Raleaka mentioned that out of the 22 applicants in this course only 15 were able to proceed and 8 were women and 13 were men.
At this event, the Minister of Tourism, Sports, Art and Culture Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo said that sports administration and development plays an important role in the improvement of sports across the country saying that this event comes at the right time when Lesotho is preparing to hold the Sports Indaba.
He therefore applauded LNOC saying that this is a step towards the right direction in terms of improving the sports games in Lesotho.
One of the facilitators Mr. Zongezile Dlangamandla said that the course consisted of 6 modules which included Time management, managing finance, managing human resource as well as organising major sports events to mention just a few.
He however applauded those that made it to the finish line and encouraged those that did not to go and utilize the skills they acquired from the course to improve the functionality of their respective sports federations.
On behalf of the graduates Ms. ‘Mamots’abi Lekhabunyane said that this has been a trying time for most of them as they had to dedicate part of their time to the course eben though some of them had permanent jobs.
She said that with this opportunity bestowed upon them, they will be able to improve the sports games across the country with the intention of creating jobs through them.
The Lesotho National Olympic Committee was established with the mission to promote olympism in Lesotho and establish an environment conducive to excellent podium performance in cooperation with key stakeholders.
Its vision is to be in the top five African countries in the Olympic and commonwealth games.
