LNFOD ACKNOWLEDGES GOVERNMENT

Maseru, Feb. 25 — The Lesotho National Federation of Organizations of the Disabled (LNFOD) has acknowledged the Government of Lesotho for signing the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa expressed its gratitude to the government for the initiative which they said is long overdue.

They indicated that it is another gain for the disability sector in the country. They added that it symbolises commitment to ensure full enjoyment of rights by the people with disabilities on equal basis with other people in Lesotho.

According to a statement by the organisation the signing was made this month in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia during the African Union Summit.

The Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa, which is also known as the African Disability Rights Protocol, was adopted by the African Heads of States on January 29, 2018, at the AU Assembly’s thirtieth ordinary session held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
