Maseru, Aug. 29 — Leader of Opposition, Mr. Mathibeli Mokhothu commended the role of media in a democratic dispensation.
The Leader said this when agreeing to clause 19 in Tenth Amendment to the Constitution Bill 2024 seeking to ensure inclusion of the Media Council in the Constitution.
He stipulated that the presence of the Council will further go a long way in enhancing professionalism in the media industry as such is the wish of Basotho media reforms.
Mr. Mokhothu appealed to the relevant committee in the House through the Minister of Justice and Law to ensure that the media fully understand why the Council as a principle will appear in the Constitution and other factors that include qualifications of appointments in the Council under the Act of Parliament instead.
