PARLY WOMEN REMAIN UNCHALLENGED

Maseru, July 22 — Although women hold about 25 percent of seats in the 11th Parliament, they remain powerful as some lead positions which have over the years been male dominated.

Their leadership is proved by the manner in which they handle parliament proceedings as well as deliberations on issues of mutual interest.

With over three years as the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mrs.Ts’epang Mosena told the Agency in an interview that the challenges she faces on a daily basis are triggered by the leadership position itself not because she is a lady Deputy Speaker.

She said she is respected by Members of Parliament, the same way she respects them, saying she believes the manner in which she conducts herself contributes to that.

“Good leadership must be governed by strong interpersonal relations that will foster a collaborative and productive environment,” she stressed.

She therefore encouraged women to be confident, professional and take leadership positions as they are strong enough to lead.

On the other hand, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairperson Mrs. Machabana Lemphane Letsie reiterated that she believes the challenges she encounters in her area of expertise are not triggered by being a lady chairperson but the nature of her job.
