Berea, Aug. 24 — Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane has expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction of the new Teyateyaneng taxi rank, saying the facility is expected to be completed and handed over to the public within the next two months.
Mr. Matekane said this on Monday during an inspection of the construction work at the taxi rank, where he assessed the progress of the project.
He said he was aware that the project had experienced delays due to circumstances beyond the contractor’s control, but expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s commitment to complete the remaining work within two months.
Mr. Matekane said the inspection was in line with his commitment to move beyond his office and personally monitor developments taking place across the country.
He further suggested that the pavement at the taxi rank be designed in the colours of Lioli Football Club.
The contractor in charge of the project, Mr. Molefe Nthabane, said the taxi rank comprises a police post, 64 cubicles for traders, municipal offices, shops, a taxi platform and toilets for people using the terminal.
He said the taxi platform was almost complete, with only paving work remaining, adding that all outstanding work was expected to be completed within two months.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Teyateyaneng, Mr. Lebona Lephema, said the site previously belonged to Lioli Football Club before the Ministry of Local Government, together with the Teyateyaneng Council, facilitated its conversion into a taxi rank.
He said the police post had existed at the site for some time but had since been upgraded as part of the development.
Mr. Lephema said the new taxi rank would provide a safer trading environment for traders, as they would be able to securely store their goods inside the cubicles.
He added that the facility also includes a bus terminal capable of accommodating three to four buses.
The development is expected to improve safety and convenience for transport operators, traders and passengers using the facility.
