QACHA’S NEK MAN JAILED FOR STEALING CABBAGE, MAIZE

Qacha’s Nek, Feb. 14 — Chakela Sekake, a 23 year-old man from Ha Mosuoe has been sentenced to one year in prison or pay a fine of M1,000 for stealing two heads of cabbage and a bag of maize.

The Qacha’s Nek Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate Ponts’o Jankie-Lehasa, found Chakela Sekake guilty on two counts of theft, in violation of Section 57 (1) and (2) (a) of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010.

According to court proceedings, Sekake stole two heads of cabbage, valued at M500, from farmer Motlatsi Moeti on June 20, 2024. The theft was discovered when Moeti noticed an intrusion in his yard and followed footprints leading to Sekake’s home, where he found one of the cabbages in a bin. 

Community policing forum member Hlompho Monamatha, who accompanied Moeti, testified that upon arrival, Sekake immediately began apologizing.
