QACHA’S NEK — Qacha’s Nek Town Clerk, Mr. Thabo Maema, has raised alarm over worsening littering challenges in the town, describing it as a reflection of a nationwide problem.
“Basotho are filthy people and it shows in many ways,” Mr. Maema said bluntly. “We clean in the morning, but by the time you get to certain areas, they look like they were never cleaned at all.”
He pointed to irresponsible passenger behavior, particularly those traveling long distances, as a major contributor to the mess.
“Because of the district’s terrain, people throw plastic bags filled with vomit everywhere. It’s a serious issue, and I’m not sure how we can fix it,” he admitted.
“Perhaps we need to start with the younger generation and teach them to value a clean environment.”. . .
