QUTHING – More than 40,000 people from four constituencies in Quthing have so far been enumerated in the ongoing Population and Housing Census, which is expected to run until May 19.
The exercise is being carried out by at least 250 enumerators temporarily engaged by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning through the Bureau of Statistics (BOS).
Speaking in an interview, Quthing District Census Coordinator, Mr. Motlatsi Kumi, said the district targets to enumerate over 97,600 people in more than 25,600 households.
He indicated that while progress has been recorded, a number of challenges have affected smooth operations.
Mr. Kumi cited a shortage of tablets as one of the key challenges, noting that some enumerators are forced to share devices despite being assigned to different enumeration areas.
He further noted that tablet batteries drain quickly, while the limited availability of power banks and charging facilities continues to hamper the exercise. He explained that enumerators often depend on places with electricity or high-capacity solar chargers, as many do not have personal solar equipment.
Transport constraints have also slowed down operations, as the district currently has only four vehicles instead of the required nine. This has made it difficult to effectively supervise enumerators and promptly respond to challenges in the field…
