SOULO DIES

Maseru, July 30 — Veteran politician Mr. Molobeli Soulo has died at the age of 69.

This was disclosed by his daughter Ms. Lerato Soulo in an interview on Sunday where she said that her father has been ill for some time but took it for worse on Saturday afternoon and was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

In his political life, Mr. Soulo was a strong member of Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) until 2006 when he left it to form All Basotho Convention (ABC) alongside the then leader and close friend Mr. Motsoahae Thabane.

In 2014, the prodigal son returned to the father (LCD) and he has been with LCD to date when he succumbed to death.

However, efforts to speak to LCD leadership were futile as Secretary General, Mr. Apesi Rats’ele’s phone were not available while leader Mr. Mothetjoa Metsing said that he will only be able to comment after he has been to the deceased’s home saying he only learned of the news from someone else.

During the ABC led government in 2012, Mr. Soulo was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Police. It is during the said tenure that he was appointed to lead a combined team of the police and the army, known as the Counter Crime Unit, to uproot gangsterism in Mafeteng.

He was Member of Parliament (MP) from 1998 to 2017.

He is the second former Minister to die this month following former Local Government Minister Mr. Habofanoe Lehana who died on July 09 and was laid to rest this past Friday.

He was born in March 1954 at Thaba-Nts’o, Ha-Tumo in Mohale’s Hoek district.

He is survived by wife and three children, two daughters and one son.
